Big Leaf Maple

(Acer macrophyllum)

Long lived deciduous trees that can live up to 300 years old.  Because of its calcium rich bark, big leaf maple is commonly seen with many other species growing on the sides of it such as various mosses and licorice ferns.

Wildlife value-  Mature trees provide copious amounts of flowers in Spring that feed a lot of bees & other pollinators.  Towards the end up summer seeds have formed which feed birds, squirrels and other small mammals.
