Butterfly host plants-  **important things to know about butterflies**

Butterflies need specific plants in order to reproduce! Often times you will see so called “butter fly seed mixes”  that try to show off non native plants targeted at butterflies.  However food is only one aspect of helping butterflies.  The other id say even more important aspect is planting the right plants that provide nesting grounds for them.  All butterflies start off as caterpillars and just like us they cant go around eating any plant they happen upon!  Each species has a specific plant or group of plants they have evolved to seek out and lay their eggs on so as soon as the caterpillar hatches its right where it needs to be and can start eating and growing.  So without the correct plants the butterfly species that relies on those specific plants starts to disappear.
